Q. What is Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR)?
 
A. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is one of the most well known hill railways in the world...and a delight it is!! The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) was built in 1881 and is over a hundred years old today. It connects the plains of West Bengal at New Jalpaiguri with the popular hill station of Darjeeling (6812 ft), a distance of about 50 miles. On the way it passes the most breathtaking scenery and climbs to a height of 7400 feet at Ghum (the highest station on IR & the 2nd highest station in the world), where on a clear day views of Mt. Kanchenchunga can be had.

The DHR has been served by little 'B' class 0-4-0 ST's (Saddle Tanks) throughout its existence. Other locos that have worked the line here are the 'A' class and a Garrat loco as well. The B class, which are probably one of the oldest working steam locos in the world, were built by the North British Locomotive Company (NBLC, Glasgow), Sharp Stewart, Baldwin and a few at the DHR works at Tindharia itself.
 
 
 
Q. How do I reach Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR)?
 
A. You can board DHR trains from New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. New Jalpaiguri is connected to all parts of India through Indian Railways. You can take overnight trains from Kolkata (Howrah/Sealdah) or from New Delhi to reach New Jalpaiguri. To know details of all trains arriving at New Jalpaiguri, please visit http://indianrail.gov.in.
Siliguri is 2 km from New Jalpaiguri. It is the second largest city of West Bengal.
You can also arrive at Siliguri by Flights. The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB). Bagdogra is connected to Kolkata (CCU) and Delhi (DEL) by daily services.
9D Steam Services start from Kurseong. You can reach Kurseong by road from Siliguri / Bagdogra. The journey time is 90-100 minutes. Darjeeling can be reached by Road or by DHR trains from Siliguri/New Jalpaiguri/Bagdorgra.
Nearest Railway Station: New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. DHR trains start from here.
Nearest Airport: Bagdogra (IXB)- 10km from Siliguri, 40 km from Kurseong, 70km from Darjeeling.

Q. The voucher is my confirm ticket?
 
A.This voucher is to be carried by the passenger during the journey. The master passenger needs to provide the passengers list before boarding the charter to the guard of the charter.

 
 
 
Q. How secure is my Password?
 
The Password entered by you is transmitted in one way encrypted form to our database and stored as such. The Password will not be known even to IRCTC. Thus you are solely responsible for the safe custody of your password.
 
 
 
Q. While booking, the amount was debited but ticket not booked. What should I do?
 
A. If for some reason, you could not see the ticket confirmation page, please check your "DHR Booked Tickets" list, wherein the details of all the successfully booked tickets would be available. If you do not see the desired transaction on this list, it means that the ticket has not been booked. The amount debited would be credited back to you in full without levying any charges. You may retry the transaction for booking your package. If you face this problem very often please let us know immediately.
 
 
 
Q. What is the minimum reservation period for DHR charters?
 
A. You can book your DHR charters 15 days before your journey date.
 
 
 
Q. How to postpone/prepone journey?
 
A. This can be done on line by cancelling the original ticket and booking a fresh ticket.
 
 
 
Q. .Is cancellation possible on Internet? How will I get my booking cancelled that I have booked at this site?
 
A. Yes is possible. Customers can log on to www.railtourismindia.com, and go to DHR Booked Tickets link and select the ticket to be fully cancelled. Cancellation would be confirmed online and the refund would be credited back to the account used for booking as for normal Internet tickets.

The refund amount due to you after cancellation will be credited back to the same account which you had used for booking the ticket.

2. Click on DHR Booked Tickets link.
3. Ree-nter your password.
4. It will show all your bookings.
5. Cancel the one you want.
